Bought this for my husband and he has barely taken it off since. We had family photos booked the week it turned up and he was very pleased with himself in it. He says it's comfortable and warm enough without being heavy which is his usual complaint about jackets.
Anything I buy has to survive being worn five days a week, because I do not have the patience for special occasion clothes. This has held up. The pile has stayed even, the buttons are solid, and the colour has not gone patchy at the elbows. It is warm without bulk, which means I can wear it in a car without cooking. I spent about half of what I had allowed and have not once wished I had gone dearer.
Pockets were the deciding factor, since I hate carrying a bag on the school run. These sit flat and hold a phone without pulling the front out of shape. The colour is a proper deep brown with a soft matte surface and it has not faded at all. It has been warm without being heavy, which suits our damp mornings. I paid well under what I had put aside and it has been worn nearly every day.
Buying outerwear without animal materials has been a slog for me, mostly because everything either looks like plastic or costs a fortune. This does not do either. The nap has a soft short pile, the colour is deep, and the button front closes neatly without gaping. I have worn it to two dinners and a gallery afternoon and felt properly dressed. What I paid was well under the designer piece I had been circling for months.
One jacket for everything was the goal and this has come closest of anything I have owned. It goes over a shirt for the office and over a jumper on the weekend without looking like it is in the wrong place. The dark brown has real depth and does not flatten out in dull light. It is soft to the touch and the matte finish stops it looking shiny. There is no bulk to it, so I can drive in it, which rules out half my wardrobe. Care has been nothing at all, a brush every so often to lift the pile. I got caught in a downpour walking back from the car park and it dried out with no marks. My wife said it looks far dearer than it was, and she saw the receipt. It has replaced two jackets and I have not missed either. Truly the easiest clothing decision I have made this year.
Loads of compliments on this already, though I will say it picks up lint if you wear it over a dark jumper. A minute with a brush sorts it and the pile lifts straight back. The colour is beautiful in daylight, warmer and deeper than on screen. It has been light and warm at the same time, which is what I wanted for spring. Price was around half the high street version I had tried on the week before.
Dropped a star because the buttons took a bit of working in and one felt tight for the first week. The jacket itself is fine, soft to the touch and a nice deep colour, and it has been perfectly comfortable since. For what it cost I think it is fair value, but it has not become a favourite.
Sunday lunches, school concerts, the pub after work, it has covered all of it since February. The dark brown reads smart enough that nobody blinks and casual enough that I am not overdressed. For half what I nearly spent elsewhere I have no complaints.

The button front sits cleanly and the chest pockets have a bit of shape to them. I brush the nap now and then and that is the entire maintenance. Nothing else I have found at this price comes close, and the department store equivalent I looked at was more than double. It has taken over from a jacket I paid far more for and liked far less. There will be a fourth at some point, probably in the spring.
Standing on a cold touchline every Sunday morning is what finally made me buy this. It cuts the wind without piling on any bulk, and the button front means I can open it up the second I get in the car. The nap has stayed even despite being shoved in and out of a boot all season. My friend paid nearly double for hers on the high street and mine has held up better. Two other parents have asked me about it since October.
